Concours Grieg is an international piano competition that, for six years, has set the highest standard for musical excellence and artistic achievement, attracting pianists from all over the world.
For the seventh year in a row, pianists are welcome to take part in the International Grieg Piano Competition - Concours Grieg - in Oslo, Norway. Pianists are invited to perform in any of the three categories: Two Piano Duo, Piano Four Hands and Piano Solo.
Concours Grieg is arranged by Norse Music and the Oslo Grieg Society, in collaboration with EPTA Norway, the Oslo Music Teachers Association and the Norwegian State Academy of Music.

Two-Piano Competition

(No age limit.)
Free repertoire, including one or more movements of Mozart/Grieg Sonatas K.V. 545, 533/494, 186g/283, 457 or Mozart/Grieg Fantasia K.V. 475 or Grieg: Old Norwegian Romanza, op. 51.
 
1st Round: The contestants play 30 minutes from their free repertoire.
2nd Round: The contestants play 30 minutes from their free repertoire. Repetition of pieces from the 1st round is allowed.
Finale: The contestants play 20 minutes from their free repertoire and one obligatory piece: B. Bartok, Sonata for 2 pianos and percussion. Percussionists will be provided in Oslo.

2nd Round: September 3 (30 min.)
Finale: September 3 (50 min.)

Piano Four Hands Competition

(No age limit.)
Free repertoire, including one or more movements of Grieg: Norwegian Dances, Symphonic Dances, Peer Gynt Suite I, Peer Gynt Suite II or Ouverture "In Autumn" op. 11.
 
1st Round: The contestants play 30 minutes from their free repertoire.
2nd Round: The contestants play 30 minutes from their free repertoire. Repetition of pieces from the first round is allowed.
Finale: The contestants play 30 minutes from their free repertoire. In addition, choose 15 minutes from J. Brahms, "Liebesliederwaltzer" among the following titles:

5. Die grüne Hopfenranke
6. Ein kleiner hübscher Vogel
8. Wenn so lind dein Auge
9. Am Donaustrande

A vocal quartet, under leadership of Stein Skjervold, will be provided in Oslo.

Solo Piano Competition

(Age 17-35)
Repertoire
1st Round: The contestants play from their free repertoire including one Lyric Piece by E. Grieg.
Total playing time: 25 minutes
2nd Round: The contestants play 15 minutes from their free repertoire. Repetition of pieces from the first round is allowed. In addition, the contestants choose 2 song accompaniments by E. Grieg. Please choose one song from each group below.

    2. Fyremål (The Goal) Op. 33 No. 12 (G Major)
    3. Poesien (Poesy) Op. 18 No. 5 (B Major)
  • Group 2
    1. Soldaten (The Soldier) A minor, EG 125
    2. Odalisken Synger (The Odalisk) D Major, EG 131
    3. Jægeren (The Hunter) A Major, EG 157
Both songs will be performed with Stein Skjervold, baritone.
Semifinale: The contestants play 25 minutes from their free repertoire. Repetition of pieces from the first and second rounds is allowed.
Finale: The contestants play 25 minutes from their free repertoire. Repetition of pieces from the first and second rounds is allowed. In addition, contestants choose one piano concerto by W.A. Mozart, KV414, KV415 or KV449. The piano concerto will be performed with the Vigeland Quartet (Norway) led by the contestant.

Preparatory Master Class:

Concours Grieg will conduct a preparatory Master Course for candidates who wish to participate in the competition. Place: Staatliche Hochschule für Musik, Hannover, Germany Dates: April 8th and 9th,2006 Teachers:

On April 8th Steinway Hall, Hannover, will offer a recital of Eugene Mursky, 1st prize winner of Concours Grieg 2000, Tatiana Kolessova, 1st prize winner of Concours Grieg 2004, and Mayumi Sakamoto, 1st prize winner of Concours Grieg 2004.
On April 9th: Concert of the participants of the Master Class at the Recital Hall at Plathnerstrasse of Hochschule für Musik, Hannover.
Participation fee for Master Class including up to four lessons: 75 Euro.
